So your current car insurance provider
won't insure your new grain truck? Probably not. That's where
Farm Auto coverage comes into play. We can insure all of your
farm vehicles and stock trailers for liability, physical damage
protection including comprehensive (including cab glass breakage),
collision and upset.
Here is some food for thought:
Do you assume liability coverage
for your stock trailer extends from the towing vehicle?
Most policies exclude liability coverage for trailers exceding
a load capacity of 2,000 pounds. This means any of your larger
trailers, tandem axle trailers, and goose-neck trailers need
to be specifically insured as coverage does not extend from
the towing vehicle.
Do you have a farm auto policy
and assume borrowed, rented or leased vehicles are covered?
Coverage for hired autos is not automatically given on a commercial
farm auto policy. It must be specifically designated on your
commercial auto declarations sheet. If you ever borrow a neighbors
vehicle, lease equipment, or rent a car on vacation, you will
want to verify hired auto coverage for liability and physical
damage coverage.
You borrow your hired man's pickup
to run into town to pick up parts. You drive through a blind
intersection and collide with another vehicle and severely
injure the other driver. Do you have coverage?
Coverage is generally excluded on a commercial auto policy
for autos belonging to your employees, partners, members,
and their respective households. Non-owned Auto coverage must
be specifically stated on your policy to have liability protection
when driving these types of vehicles.
These are just a few situations that
may not have occurred to you, or even to your agent if they
didn't know about them. It's important to let your agent know
of any activities that may create a need for additional coverages.
